Italian Pasta Bowls & Soup Bowls — Designed in Milan
Italian pasta bowls and soup bowls designed in Milan. Hand-decorated Italian porcelain pasta bowls and shatterproof Italian melamine pasta bowl sets — built for the way Italians actually serve pasta and primi: deep enough for sauce, wide enough for plating, beautiful enough to skip the trip to the kitchen for serving dishes. From Baci Milano, the Italian luxury heritage tableware brand carried in 500+ premium boutiques worldwide and trusted by Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, Eataly, Delano Hotel Miami Beach, and Simonas in the Miami Design District.
Why an Italian pasta bowl is different from an American soup bowl
An Italian pasta bowl is wider and shallower than an American soup bowl — designed so a tangle of bucatini, pappardelle, or spaghetti can sit flat without piling, with the rim catching any sauce that wants to escape. The wider profile lets you plate a Caprese salad, a primo of risotto, a cold pasta, or a single-bowl minestrone with the same dish. The shallow depth means the food is on display, not buried.
Italian-designed pasta bowls and soup bowls from Baci Milano follow this form across two materials: hand-decorated Italian porcelain pasta bowls — sold individually, $35 each — and shatterproof Italian melamine pasta bowl sets of 6, $175. Both materials hand-decorated in our Milan studio.

Pasta bowl sizes & uses
Single-serving (8–9")
The standard Italian primo size. Holds 1 cup cooked pasta with sauce. Perfect for individual servings of risotto, lasagna portions, or a small Caesar salad.
Family-style (10–11")
Italian melamine pasta bowls in this range double as a serving piece on the table — pasta course laid out for a family of 4–6 to share.
Soup & antipasto bowl
Same form factor — Italian pasta bowls work beautifully for minestrone, ribollita, stracciatella, or a single-bowl antipasto plate.
Versatile dinner bowl
Risotto, ramen, large salads, antipasto plates, dessert. The wide-shallow shape works for any dish you'd plate, not pour.
How to style Italian pasta bowls on the table
Italian pasta bowls go on top of an Italian dinner plate or charger — the layered tablescape that signals "this is a real Italian dinner." The pasta bowl holds the primo (first course); when you clear it, the dinner plate underneath catches the secondo (main course). Pair with an Italian wine glass from Baroque & Rock or Crystal Touch, an Italian-designed stain-resistant cotton tablecloth, and an Italian charcuterie board from our Italian charcuterie collection for the antipasto course.
Pairing with the rest of the table
For Mamma Mia bowls
Match with Mamma Mia porcelain dinner plates for layering, Mamma Mia espresso cups for the digestif, and a Mamma Mia cotton tablecloth.
For Joke melamine bowls
Pair with Joke white or taupe dinner plates for a clean, modern table where the pasta is the visual.
For Portofino bowls
Build the full Mediterranean table with Portofino dinnerware, matching pitchers, and outdoor stemware.
For Firenze bowls
Pair with the Firenze fine porcelain line for a formal dinner — the closest we offer to traditional Italian heirloom tableware.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a pasta bowl and a soup bowl?
An Italian pasta bowl is wider and shallower than an American soup bowl — built to display long pasta laid flat. A soup bowl is deeper, smaller in diameter. Italian pasta bowls work for both pasta and soup; American-shaped soup bowls don't work as well for pasta. Our Italian-designed bowls follow the pasta-bowl form factor.
Are Italian melamine pasta bowls dishwasher-safe?
Yes — top rack only. Avoid abrasive scrubbers. Italian melamine is NOT microwave-safe and NOT for hot foods over 70°C / 160°F. Pour pasta from a pot into the bowl just before serving — don't reheat in the bowl.
Can porcelain pasta bowls go in the microwave?
Yes — Mamma Mia porcelain pasta bowls are microwave-safe and dishwasher-safe top rack. Avoid sudden temperature changes (don't put a frozen pasta bowl directly into a hot microwave).
How big are these bowls?
Most range from 8–10" in diameter, 1.5–2.5" deep. See the full sizing guide for exact measurements per collection.
Are these the same as bowls for risotto, ramen, or salad?
Yes. Italian pasta bowls are the most versatile bowl in the catalog — they hold risotto, ramen, large salads, antipasto plates, and dessert. The wide-shallow shape works for any dish you'd plate, not pour.
Where are these designed?
All Baci Milano pasta bowls are Italian-designed in our Milan studio. Italian-designed since 2003. Stocked in our Opa-locka, Florida warehouse.
Do you offer pasta bowl sets for weddings?
Yes — see the Italian tableware wedding registry guide for the recommended bowl + plate + glass combinations for couples building their first table.
